New Criminal Code

  1. This law supersedes the Criminal Code enacted on 7 Boisaire, AR 10. That law is hereby repealed.
  2. This is an “in-character” list of offences and punishments. “Out-of-character” offences fall outside of the jurisdiction of the government and shall instead be handled by out-of-character moderation.

Crimes of Treason

  1. The crime of Invasion shall be defined as “Organising or participating in an invasion, attempted or successful, of Carcassonne or one of her allied regions”. The maximum penalty for Invasion shall be a permanent ban from the region.
  2. The crime of Insurrection shall be defined as “Any act which seeks to subvert or overthrow the lawfully constituted government of Carcassonne or one of her allied regions.” The maximum penalty for Insurrection shall be a permanent ban from the region.
  3. The crime of Sedition shall be defined as “Knowingly and deliberately aiding and abetting the enemies of Carcassonne.” The maximum penalty for Sedition shall be a year-long ban from the region.

Crimes against the State

  1. The crime of Espionage shall be defined as “The distribution of classified information without official sanction.” The maximum penalty for Espionage shall be a permanent ban from the region.
  2. The crime of Citizenship Fraud shall be defined as “Gaining citizenship in Carcassonne under false pretences.” The maximum penalty for Citizenship Fraud shall be a permanent ban from the region.
  3. The crime of Impersonating an Official shall be defined as “The fraudulent presentation of one’s self as a government official in Carcassonne.” The maximum penalty for Impersonating an Official shall be a six-month ban from the region. A suspension of citizenship or a ban from government office (up to a maximum of six months) may be applied instead.

Misconduct in Office

  1. The crime of Corruption shall be defined as “The abuse the powers of any government or military office for personal gain.” The maximum penalty for Corruption shall be a permanent ban from the region. A suspension of citizenship or a ban from government office may be applied instead.
  2. The crime of Violation of Rights shall be defined as “A government official infringing upon the legally-guaranteed rights of residents or citizens.” The maximum penalty for Violation of Rights shall be a year-long ban from government office.

Electoral Crimes

  1. The crime of Voter Fraud shall be defined as “A single player voting multiple times in an election, Ecclesia vote, or some other vote, through multiple citizen accounts.” The maximum penalty for Voter Fraud shall be permanent revocation of citizenship for the player involved.
  2. The crime of Voter Importation shall be defined as “A citizen inviting outside players into the region for the express purpose of supporting their political agenda.” The maximum penalty for Voter Importation shall be permanent revocation of citizenship for all players involved.
  3. The crime of Voter Suppression shall be defined as “The knowing distribution of false information about the timing, venue, method, qualifications, candidates or results of any election, Ecclesia vote, or other vote of Carcassonne.” The maximum penalty for Voter Suppression shall be a six-month suspension of citizenship. A ban from government office (up to a year) may be applied instead.

Crimes Against Justice

  1. The crime of Perjury shall be defined as “Knowingly giving false testimony in any criminal investigation or judicial proceeding.” The maximum penalty for Perjury shall be a year-long suspension of citizenship.
  2. The crime of Evidence Tampering shall be defined as “The knowing alteration, fabrication, concealment or destruction of evidence in any criminal investigation or judicial proceeding.” The maximum penalty for Evidence Tampering shall be a year-long suspension of citizenship.
  3. The crime of Contempt shall be defined as “Deliberately interfering with the proper functioning of a regional court.” The maximum penalty for Contempt shall be a six-month suspension of citizenship.

Crimes Against the Person

  1. The crime of Fraud shall be defined as “Obtaining material benefit or advantage by means of knowing deception.” The maximum penalty for Fraud shall be a six-month suspension of citizenship. A ban from government office (up to a year) may be applied instead.
  2. The crime of Defamation shall be defined as “Knowingly promoting falsehoods regarding another nation with the intent to damage their reputation.” The maximum penalty for Defamation shall be a six-month suspension of citizenship. A ban from government office (up to a year) may be applied instead.

Conspiracy

  1. The crime of Conspiracy shall be defined as “Planning, attempting, or aiding in the commission of any other crime under this criminal code.” The maximum penalty for Conspiracy shall be half of the maximum penalty of the conspired crime.
